Eleanor (Raymond) Taylor, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 103 on Saturday, November 2, 2024. She was the widow of George A. Taylor, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2006.
Born in Easthampton, MA on July 25, 1921, she was the oldest of three children to the late Henry and Rosanna (Fugere) Raymond, and was a 1939 graduate of East Hartford High School. Shortly after her marriage to George in 1941, they settled in West Hartford, where she was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in raising her three daughters. A woman of many talents, Eleanor thrived in various roles, from her days at Sage Allen and G. Fox department stores to her time at Traveler's Insurance Company, where she ultimately retired in the 1980s. They made their home in Southington in 1994 and were longtime members of the St. Luke Parish community. Eleanor was known for her love of literature, with her home always filled with a diverse collection of books that she cherished. A creative soul, she found solace in writing short stories and poetry, and her artistic talents shone through in her beautiful hand-painted glass Christmas ornaments that adorned her holiday decorations. A passionate fan of UCONN basketball, Eleanor diligently followed the team's successes and celebrated their victories. She also possessed a sharp mind and excelled at Rummikub, often emerging victorious in spirited games with friends and family. Eleanor's life was one filled with love, laughter, and creativity, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be treasured.
She is survived by her daughters, Claudia (Ralph) Peruch of Brooksville, FL., Deborah Hallin of Plainville, and Janet (James) Adamowicz of Southington; 7 grandchildren, Thomas (Rachel) Peruch, Scott Peruch, David (Michelle) Peruch, Marc (Jessica) Hallin, Catherine (Christian) Michaud, Robin Adamowicz and Daniel Adamowicz; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Donald Hallin, her brother Roland Raymond, her sister Theresa Raymond and nephew, Michael Raymond.
Eleanor’s family would like to thank her longtime friend and caregiver who became her fourth daughter, Linda Reynolds, and the staff at Southington Care Center for their compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington. The family will greet guests at the church prior to the mass, from 10-11 a.m. She will be laid to rest privately at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
