Elaine Ann Cyr, 78, of Plainville, passed peacefully at her home on May 21, 2026.
Born on March 21, 1948, in Madawaska, Maine, Elaine was the oldest of four children to the late Urby and Ernestine (Plourde) Cyr. She graduated from Madawaska High School, where her lifelong love of music first took root. An accomplished clarinet player, Elaine cherished the opportunity to perform at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City.
Elaine was known as a hard-working and fun-loving sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and laughter brightened the lives of everyone around her. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: tending to her houseplants and gardens, admiring flowers, and spending time in nature or trying her luck at scratch tickets. She had a deep love for animals and rarely passed up a chance to snuggle a cat or take a dog for walk.
A devoted sports fan, Elaine especially loved college basketball and faithfully cheered on the UConn Huskies women's basketball team each season. She also treasured her visits to New Orleans, where she delighted in the city’s vibrant music, lively spirit, and irresistible sweets.
Above all, Elaine will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of family and friends, and the kindness she shared so freely.
She is survived by her siblings, Donald Cyr, Dorothy Brown and her husband Dave and Dora Derosier and her husband Steve; her nieces and nephews, Amanda Brown, Emily Cratty and her husband Josh, Allyson Derosier, her husband Kevin Kaye, and their sons Xander and Jayden, Jordan Derosier and his wife Dakotah, and Benjamin Derosier. She was predeceased by her life partner and best friend, Howard Achille.
Elaine’s love for animals may be remembered with contributions to the Connecticut Humane Society 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111 or http://www.cthumane.org or to the American Cancer Society at http://www.cancer.org
Family and friends may gather on Thursday May 28, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.
