Edward Zareck Obituary

Edward R. Zareck, 97, affectionately known as “Good Lookin’ Ed,” of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Bristol Hospital. He was the devoted husband to his late wife, Mildred “Mil” (Watson) Zareck, with whom he shared 46 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 1998. They are now reunited in eternal peace.

Ed was born on October 2, 1927 in New Britain, CT son to the late Adam Zareck and Rachel (Davenport) (Zareck) Root and was raised in Plainville. For an impressive 44 years, Ed dedicated his life to Macristy Industries, where he began his career as a toolroom foreman and soared to the esteemed role of plant supervisor. His work ethic, coupled with his profound knowledge of the industry, earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Ed's life was characterized by a deep love for nature. An avid fisherman, he could often be found casting his line in his favorite spots: Paderewski Park, Silver Lake, and Twin Lake. His passion for fishing extended beyond freshwater, as he eagerly sought saltwater adventures with his brother-in-law on the serene waters of the Niantic River. He relished camping trips to Hammonasset Beach, where he would create lasting memories with family and friends. In quieter moments, he found joy in simply sitting by a campfire at home, sharing stories, laughter, and a cold beer with those he cared about most.

A connoisseur of life's finer moments, Ed was often seen enjoying a glass of port wine with dinner when dining out, a small yet significant ritual that highlighted his appreciation for good food and great company. His laughter and warmth will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ed is survived by his sons, Bruce Zareck and his wife, Betty, and Kirk Zareck; his grandchildren, Benjamin Zareck, Jessica Zareck, Timothy Zareck, Danielle Zareck, and Corrin Zareck; his great-grandchildren, Jacob Zareck, Hannah Zareck, and Nathan Zareck; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ed was predeceased by his sisters, Wanda Gidman and Donna Preleski, along with their spouses.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A service in celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Ed will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Mil, in West Cemetery, Plainville.
