Edward Gregory Bruce, Sr.

Edward Gregory Bruce, Sr., 90, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born on January 22, 1936, in Bristol, CT, the son of the late Edward and Anna (Downham) Bruce, of New Britain. He attended New Britain High School and served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He was a member of the Plumbers Union 256 for 14 years and retired from General Motors after 20 years in 1999. Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and spending summers at their family cottage in Maine.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria (Smith) (Henderson) Bruce; his children, Edward G. Bruce, Jr. and his wife, Darlene, of Plainville, Ina Henderson Rohan, of Plainville, Catherine Bruce Buys, of Southington, and Madeline Bruce Roy, of Port Clinton, OH; his grandchildren, Shannon Buys, Frank Hearl, Raymond Halpin, Melanie Roy, Monique Roy, Eddie Bruce III, Robert Bruce and Branden Savard; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Nancy Spano and Mary Jane Wierbecki, of New Britain; his brothers-in-law, Ronald and Milton Smith, of Presque Isle, ME; his son-in-law, Jeffrey Rohan, of Bristol; his son, Lonnie Henderson, of Port Clinton, OH; and his granddaughter, Desiree Bruce, of Bristol.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A service in celebration of Edward’s life will begin at 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held privately at a later date.
