Earl R. Bishop, Jr., 77, affectionately known as “Pokey,” of Plantsville, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with prostate cancer on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus.
Earl was born on January 9, 1945 in Bristol, CT son to the late Earl R. and Anna (Vanoni) Bishop, Sr. He grew up on Fall Mountain in Terryville and was currently residing in Plantsville with his best friend and love of his life, Linda Tumolo. Earl was employed as a truck driver for many dedicated years prior to retirement, having worked for several different companies. In retirement, he was known for his daily trips to McDonald’s for a coffee with the morning crew, establishing many lasting friendships through the years. He enjoyed various sports, especially fishing and horse racing; a sport he frequently placed successful bets on. In addition, he was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Family was very important to Earl and at a young age he proudly took on the responsibility of helping to raise his siblings-in-law, Bob Crapser and Barbara Lindquist, an undertaking they will forever be grateful for. The patriarch of the family, Earl will be missed deeply as his family takes comfort in knowing that he is at peace.
Earl is survived by his soulmate, Linda Tumolo; his children, Kara Bishop, Kim Bishop, Ken Tumolo and his wife, Beata, and Daniel Tumolo and his wife, Eliza; his grandchildren, Camron Rivera, Maddison Rivera, Nick Tumolo and his wife, Alyssa, Jon Tumolo, Matt Tumolo, and Annabelle Tumolo; his sister, Carol Kohl; his brother, Edwin “Tiger” Kohl, Jr.; his nephews, Russell Kohl, Timmy Bishop and his wife, Deanna and Bobby Bishop and his wife, Heidi; his son-in-law, Will Rivera; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Bishop and his brother-in-law, Edwin Kohl, Sr.
