Donald Hallin Obituary

Donald Russell Hallin, 79, of Plainville, husband of Deborah (Taylor) Hallin, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

Born in New Britain on November 13, 1941 he was the oldest son of the late Russell and Avis (Samuelson) Hallin.  Don graduated from NBHS in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation, serving for 3 years stationed in France. He went on to graduate from Central Connecticut State University, and began his career at The Hartford and Travelers Insurance, where he met his wife Debbie. Don along with his parents and brother, were longtime employees of Plainville Stadium. He went on to teach at Pulaski and New Britain High Schools, completed his Master’s Degree, and retired after 32 years. Don looked forward to weekly breakfasts with his fellow retirees.  He and Debbie were longtime Plainville residents and shared 51 years of marriage.  Don had a lifelong passion for sports, having worked the student’s games after school, was a volunteer for the Plainville Little League, participated in local bowling leagues, enjoyed watching NASCAR, and was a longtime season ticket holder for UCONN Basketball; though his proudest moments were always on the sidelines or bleachers at his grandsons’ games.   He also enjoyed spending quality time with his “grand-dogs”. He leaves many cherished memories for his family and friends to reflect upon with a smile and a laugh.

In addition to his wife, Deborah, he leaves his children, Marc Hallin and his wife Jessica of Plainville and Catherine Michaud and her husband Christian of Bristol; his adored grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Michaud, Jacob Hallin, and Devin and Jayde Hill; his brother, Rodney (Danielle) Hallin and niece and nephew Michelle and Ryan. Don’s family wishes to thank his caretaker and buddy, Carlos Medina, for his compassion and care.

Those who wish may remember Don with contributions to a charity of their choosing.

Family and friends may gather in celebration of Don’s life on Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.  Words of remembrance will be shared at 7:00 p.m., followed by Military Honors.  Guests are asked to attend in accordance with CDC guidelines, wear face coverings and practice social distancing.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PLAINVILLEFUNERALHOME.com
