Dale C. Sharp, 85 of Plainville, affectionately known as “Sharpy” to many, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023 surrounded by his devoted family, joining his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy, in eternal peace.
Born on December 25, 1937, in Chatham, NY, he was one of three children to the late Albert and Catherine (Folmsby) Sharp. Raised and educated in upstate New York, Dale learned to drive a truck at the young age of 10 while going to work with his father. This early introduction sparked a lifelong passion for truck driving, a career he pursued for over 35 years with Tilcon. His tan left arm, a testament to his many hours on the road with his arm out the window, was a familiar sight to all who knew him. Dale's love for truck driving was so infectious that it was passed down to other members of his family.
In his leisure time, Dale was a longtime seasonal camper at Wolf's Den. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family, whom he cherished dearly. A diehard Boston Red Sox fan, Dale was also known for his flashy dressing style, rarely seen without his trademark flat top hat. He was incredibly social and friendly, quickly earning the nickname of "mayor" during his 22-month stay at Apple Rehab where he leaves many friends and caretakers. His warm personality and genuine kindness made him a favorite among his peers and loved ones. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave so freely.
Dale was the proud father to Wayne Sharp and his wife Kathleen, Cheryl Dutko and her husband Francis, Dennis Sharp and his wife Pamela, and Wendy Gauthier and her husband Raymond; and was affectionately known as "Pops" to his cherished 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Joyce Signor and Ruth Maher and leaves his nephew Kevin (Mary) Maher, and niece Kathleen (Philip) Barker of NY.
In lieu of flowers, Dale may be remembered with contributions to the Plainville Community Food Pantry, PO Box 233, Plainville, CT 06062 or the Petit Family Foundation, PO Box 310, Plainville, CT 06062
