Charles Roby, Jr Obituary

Charles Joseph Roby, Jr., 73, of Southington, formerly of New Britain, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 after a hard fought battle with Covid 19.  He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Gayle Lena (Raymond) Roby, who predeceased him in 2019.

Born and raised in New Britain, he was the son of Helen (Gomes) Roby and the late Charles Joseph Roby, Sr.  “Hank” or “Chuck” as he was affectionately known to his family and friends was a graduate of New Britain High School, where he excelled at baseball and track and field.  A life spent giving to others; Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and returned to his hometown community as an officer with the New Britain Police Department, from where he retired as a Sergeant after 27 years of dedication.  A sports enthusiast, he was a member of city softball leagues, a statewide championship winning bowler, a die-hard Red Sox fan, and shared a passion for golf alongside his sons and extended family.  Above all, his proudest moments were on the sidelines or bleachers with Gayle, cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events and life achievements.   He and Gayle centered their lives around their beloved families, and exemplified grandparenthood through their endless love and support.   He will be missed beyond words, leaving many cherished memories filled with selflessness, love and laughter.

He is survived by his son, John Roby, his partner Nicole Mastroianni, and his children Jayson, Jocelyn, Aerus, Jayden, and Jenna; his son Christopher Roby, his wife Tara and their son, Kellen; his step daughter, Nicole (Corlette) Spencer, her husband, Anthony and their daughters, Tauri and Sydni; his step son Richard Corlette, his wife Maegan and their children Kaedyn and Kallen; and four great-grandchildren.  He also leaves his siblings Charlene Shorter, Lynn Knapp and her husband, Vincent, Peter Roby and the late Sandra Roby, and Kim Hollfelder and her husband, Richard; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends.

Chuck’s passion for sports and his community, may be remembered with contributions to the Boys and Girls Club of New Britain, 150 Washington St, New Britain, CT 06051 or at www.bgclubnb.org

A memorial celebration of Chuck’s life will be held and announced at a later date, when all are able to travel and safely gather together.  The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their gratitude to the Roby family for their trust.  For future service information and online expressions of sympathy, please visit Chuck’s tribute page at www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
