Charles Frederick Miller, 81 of Bristol, was reunited with his beloved wife of 43 years, Nola (DuBois) Miller, upon his peaceful passing at his home on Friday March 7, 2025. Known affectionately as "Butch" or "Charlie," he lived a life rich in service, love, music and laughter.
Born on June 9, 1943, and raised alongside his three sisters in New Britain, Charlie embraced life with an exuberance that would define his years. He graduated from New Britain High School, then answered the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Army and honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Charlie dedicated many years to the Bristol Police Department, where his commitment to community service excelled. Known for his gregarious nature and outgoing spirit, he became a beloved figure in Bristol, always willing to lend a helping hand and share a hearty laugh. In addition to his law enforcement career, Charlie was a vastly talented musician who played guitar and lent his voice as the lead singer for local bands, including The New England Raiders and Red Rider. His love for music, especially his idol Elvis, was a cornerstone of his life. He enjoyed road trips with his bandmates where they filled the air with melodies at weddings and celebrations, vacationing with family and friends, along with countless karaoke nights and dancing with his sweetheart, Nola, at their favorite spot, the Cadillac Ranch.
A black belt in Judo, Charlie was proud of his role as a teacher and mentor, often sharing stories of his journey in martial arts. His zest for life extended to his retirement as a fixture for breakfast with his friends at Kizl’s and remaining deeply engaged in the lives of his family. He was especially proud of his role as "Papa" to his seven grandchildren, eagerly participating in their activities and celebrating their milestones. His warmth, spirit, and love for family will be missed deeply by all.
Charlie is survived by his sons, Shawn Miller and Shane Miller and his wife Caroline; his daughter Shannon Miller; Nola’s children whom he considered his own, Kim Kiesman and her husband Steven, Paul Manwaring, III and his wife Liz, and Kendra Carney and her husband Troy; their grandchildren, Siera, Nate, Josh, Luke, Lily, Paul and Bethany; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty, Barbara and Sandy.
