Charles Robert Kraut, Jr. 63 of Berlin, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain.
Born on July 1, 1960, he was one of four children to the late Charles Kraut, Sr. and Diane (Dagata) Kraut. Upon graduating from Granger Lane School in Plainville, Charles went on to work for many years at Big Y, where he was well known and loved by his community. Always ready for a conversation and to put a smile on your face, his customers would often choose his post and wait in line just to say hello. Charles had a passion for music and could name countless songs and artists, with the American Top 40 on Sunday nights being a weekly ritual. Having learned the accordion at young age, he made each family gathering complete with his singing and dancing. Charles was always eager to shop for magazines and newspapers to share with much excitement the latest gossip about singers and movie stars. In order for each of his outings to be a success, they would have to end with the purchase of his favorite mints, and a trip by Dunkin for a coffee and donut. Charles was a longtime member of PARC where he made many friends. Together they went on many adventures, including going to the movies, out to restaurants, dances, fairs and sporting events, and competed alongside each other at the Special Olympics where he earned several medals. Above all, Charles loved being surrounded by his family. Annual trips to Misquamicut Beach, and loudly and enthusiastically cheering on his favorite teams, the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox, are just some of the many cherished times shared together. He will be missed dearly every day and will live on for eternity in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his brothers, Michael Kraut and his wife Caryle of Pahrump, NV and Kevin Kraut and his wife Jeanne of Farmington; his sister, Kathryn Kraut of Newington; nephews Sean, Kyle, Robert and Michael; nieces Jayme, Katelyn, and Olivia; two great-nephews Cooper and Crosby; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
