Carol Decker, 78, of Plainville, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. She was the wife of William J. Decker, Sr., who predeceased her in 2004.
Born on December 21, 1940, Carol was one of two daughters of the late Frederick and Helen (Kowalski) Rogers. Raised in New Britain, she attended local schools, and was a graduate of New Britain High School. She and William were married for 48 years, and enjoyed camping, square dancing, and many car trips exploring the country. They settled in Plainville in the 1970’s where they raised their family and Carol pursued a degree in nursing. She was dedicated to her patients and retired after a long career working at various skilled nursing facilities in the area. Always one with nature, she enjoyed spending time in her gardens growing flowers, herbs and vegetables, and had a love for all living things, especially animals. She was very artistic, and expressed her creativity through sewing her own clothing, drawing, painting, and crafting. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was being surrounded by her family, whom she leaves with many cherished memories.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Alexander “Butch” Gudat; her daughter, Terri Decker-Kilmartin and her husband, Jim of Lowell, MA; her grandchildren, Meaghan and Shaela Kilmartin, Jessica Decker and her partner Peter Speranza; Jennifer Decker and her partner Jorge Betancourt; and William J. Decker, III; and her great-grandchildren, Jonathan, William, and Eliana Mae. She also leaves her sister, Terry Beaulieu of Forestville; along with several nieces and nephews. Her son, William J. Decker, Jr, predeceased her.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of Carol’s life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 4-6 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. Words of remembrance will be shared at 6:00 p.m.
