Bernice Angela (Genovese) Peets, 64 of Plainville, left this earthly life unexpectedly on Friday, October 17, 2025. A woman who loved deeply and lived simply, she will be missed dearly.
Born in New Britain on December 28, 1960, she was one of four daughters to the late Nathan and Eve (Rizzo) Genovese, and was raised and educated in Plainville.
Bernice was the beloved wife of William Peets, with whom she shared 33 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and adventure, settling in Bernice’s hometown where they raised their two daughters. From countless cruises to cherished trips to her ultimate happy place—Disney—Bernice and Bill made the most of every moment together. Their marriage was a shining example of true partnership, friendship, and devotion.
A beautiful person inside and out, Bernice her family was the center of her world, and she took great joy in the little things—family dinners, shared laughter, and time spent together. She was overjoyed at the thought of becoming a grandmother and eagerly anticipated welcoming her first grandchild, ready to embrace the next chapter of her life with the same love and warmth that defined her every day. For over a decade, Bernice worked with American Greetings, bringing joy to others through her friendly presence as she distributed greeting cards to stores across the area. She was well known for her bright spirit, love of shopping, and her ability to make each visit special for the people she met along the way.
Bernice was a cherished member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington, where her kind spirit touched countless lives. Whether greeting friends with a warm smile at the café on Sundays or lending her talents to the beloved group of “banana bread makers,” she embodied generosity and grace. Her church community was her extended family, and she found great joy in serving and sharing her faith.
Bernice will be missed beyond words by her loving husband Bill, her two daughters, Kathyrn Riendeau and her husband Chase, and Alexis Peets; her three sisters, Debbie DiPietro, Holly Genovese, and Claudia Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held on Thursday October 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 296 New Britain Ave, Newington.
