Beatrice Brown Obituary

Beatrice Kathy Brown, 62, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at Hospital of Central Connecticut surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 16, 1962 in El Paso, TX.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph Brown; her son, Jason Brown, and his partner, Sean McSweeny; and her daughter, Sarah D’Amato, her husband, Jake D’Amato, along with their beloved dog, Kace. She was most excited about being a Grammy to Sarah’s baby boy due in September. She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence Johanson and her mother Miwa “Katie” Johanson.

Kathy also leaves behind her four siblings, Barbara Tewksbury and her husband, Chip, Betty Mulcey and her husband Donald, Beverly Johanson, and Barry Johanson and his wife Jodi, who all shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and strength together. Kathy also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who she was exceptionally close with.

Kathy built an incredible 40-year career at United Business and Industry Federal Credit Union, where she rose from the role of teller to serve as Vice President of Human Resources. Her strong work ethic, compassionate leadership, and ability to guide others left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working with her. She recently retired just a week before her passing.

Outside of her professional achievements, Kathy had a vibrant and playful spirit. She loved Japanese food, found joy in her sticker books, and often immersed herself in new arts and crafts hobbies — picking up a new creative passion every six months. Above all, family was her entire heart. She was always ready with advice, encouragement, a listening ear, and she offered her love and support without hesitation to those she cherished most.

Kathy lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to those around her. Her legacy of love, guidance, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kathy’s memory, honoring her spirit of generosity and care for others.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St. Plainville. A celebration of life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at West Cemetery.
