With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anthony E. D'Addese, 99, a beloved member of the Plainville community who passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 20, 2024. He is now reunited with his loving wife of 72 years, Frances M. (Kozuch) D’Addese, who predeceased him in 2019.
Anthony was born on September 1, 1924, in Southington, CT son to the late Marcello Joseph and Giovanna (DeAngelis) D’Addese. A lifelong resident of Plainville, Anthony attended Plainville High School, E.C. Goodwin Tech in New Britain, and Hartford Technical School, where he learned his skills in design engineering. Anthony dedicated himself to his work, showcasing his talent and precision through the detailed drawings he created. His career included esteemed positions with New Britain Machine Company and Standard Knapp Co., in Portland, where his expertise in design engineering left a lasting impact. He retired in 1987 from Standard Knapp Co., after many dedicated years to his profession and setting the bars high for design engineering auto packaging.
During World War II, Anthony bravely served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces as part of the 20th Air Force, stationed with the B29 Group Tinian Island and in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. His service and commitment earned him the rank of Corporal and esteemed recognition as a sharp shooter, before his honorable discharge. He took pride in being an American and a dedicated Republican, who always honored his roots.
Anthony's interests were varied, from woodworking to bowling, golfing, and playing tennis. He found joy and relaxation in these activities, forging friendships and memories along the way. His passion for the sports led him to be a member of bowling and golf leagues and participate in casual tennis matches through CT. He especially enjoyed rounds of golf at Stanley and Tunxis Golf Clubs and playing tennis at the Newington Tennis Club.
In addition to his professional and recreational pursuits, Anthony was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and the Plainville Senior Center, where his faith and sense of community thrived. Anthony's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He lived a rich and fulfilling life, marked by a steadfast dedication to his beliefs and principles.
Anthony is survived by his children, Jackie D’Addese, Kathy Joslyn and her partner, Mark Dunn, and Joseph D’Addese and his wife, Yvonne; his grandchildren, Steve Joslyn and his wife, Robyne, Krysten Robbins and her husband, Jimmy, and Sarah D’Addese and her fiancé, Ryan Chambers; his great-grandchildren, Grady and Kinley Joslyn and Ryleigh and Landon Robbins; his son-in-law, Stewart Schwab; his close family friend, Jackie Dionne; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Frances D’Addese, Anthony was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Schwab and his siblings, Harry D’Addese and his wife, Margaret (Penny), Mary D’Addese, and Josephine D’Addese.
Anthony’s family would like to extend their appreciation to Anthony’s homecare aides, Cathy Marandino and Rosemarie Palmese, for the support, love and exceptional care they provided for many years. Special thanks to Hartford Healthcare Hospice at Home team and the Assisted Living CT, who have all helped with Anthony’s well-being and providing the care to keep Anthony at home. His family would also like to thank the staff at Plainville Funeral Home, especially Blaire Bouchard, for all the compassion and guidance provided to the entire D’Addese family through the years.
