Alice Marie Garren, known to most as Marie, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at HCA Florida Osceolo Hospital, exactly one month before her 70th wedding anniversary. She was 90 years old.
She was born in Bristol, Connecticut to Joshua and Alice Pinder. Marie was raised in Plainville, Connecticut mostly by her dad as her mom passed away when she was very young. She graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1954 and later graduated from Manchester Community College. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Wesley Garren and moved to the navy base in Chincoteague, Virginia where Wesley was stationed. They moved back to Plainville after the service and lived there a few years before becoming Bristol residents for 40 years. In retirement, they relocated to Poinciana, Florida as Marie wanted to be in the warm weather all year long.
Prior to her retirement, Marie worked for CT Department of Transportation, St. Francis Hospital administration office and The Travelers Insurance Company payroll and administration office.
Marie loved to be on the go. Marie and Wesley loved traveling in their motor home to Cape Cod, Hilton Head and Disney Fort Wilderness. The beach was her absolute favorite spot to hang out at. Her garden was her pride and joy. Marie was always coming home with new additions for planting in the garden. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her delicious meatballs and frosted sugar cookies will be missed. After they moved to Florida, Marie found that bocce was a fun game to play.
Marie is survived by her extremely devoted husband, Wesley; her loving children, Dale Garren and wife Josephine of Bristol, CT, Deborah Hintz and husband David of Bristol, CT and Sondra Beit and husband Roger of Glastonbury, CT; her cherished grandchildren Justin and Eric Garren, Brian, Stephen and Kevin Hintz, Lisa Hintz Sych, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Beit; and seven great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Alice Pinder, and her brothers, Lloyd and Harold Pinder.
A celebration of Alice's life will be held privately. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, extend their appreciation to the Garren family for their trust.
