Alfonso Asensio, 93, a lifelong resident of Plainville, beloved husband to Jennie (Palumbo) Asensio and son of the late Hipolito and Jacinta (Gomez) Asensio, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021.
Alfonso proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, including a deployment to the U.S.S. Missouri, where he learned the skills and expertise in boiler and furnace mechanics, a trade that he would practice during his working years that followed. An avid sports enthusiast, he was an ardent UConn and NY Yankees fan. Alfonso was also proud of his Spanish heritage, loving large family parties featuring paella and his trademark, Spanish butter.
Alfonso was a source of strength to his family and many friends. In addition to his cherished wife of 68 years, Jennie, he leaves his sons, Bob and his wife Susan of MA and Richard and his partner, Chau Nguyen of CA; his grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Demake, Jill (Thomas) Olsen, and Robert Asensio; and his great-grandchildren Dominic, William, Renee and Anna. He also leaves his sister, Trinidad Binkowski and many nieces and nephews; all who will remember him fondly. He was predeceased by his brother, Cesareo.
In support of his fellow veterans, Alfonso may be remembered with contributions to the House of Heroes CT, 3342 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 or at www.hohct.org
