Celeitha Sergeant passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 8th, 2019. Born in October 22nd, 1934, she was predeceased by her husband Dillion Marchus Benedict Sergeant. Celeitha is survived by her brothers Clenon Browne, Alpheaus Browne, Alan Browne, Willy Brown, Theodore Browne, her sisters Lorna Browne and Joan Falby; her sons Abraham Browne, Isaac Sergeant, Michael Sergeant, and Hanif Sergeant,and daughter Noreen Castello. She is also survived by grandchildren Everette, Shirlene, Jonique Castello, Shandy, Marcus, Monifah, and Hadiya Sergeant; great grandchildren Johdeen and Jolah Castello, and a host of many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Celeitha was the third of eight siblings, home-birth by a midwife from her parents Winifred and Joseph Browne in the village of Bridgetown, Biabou St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She was educated at the Biabou Methodist School and there she developed her skills to farming. It is there in St. Vincent she married the man who swept her off her feet, her sweetheart Dillon on June 19th, 1957 at the St. Matthew’s Church in Biabou.
Then in 1988, Celeitha and her late Husband migrated to the United States of America to Brooklyn, New York to start a better way of life. While living in Brooklyn, she worked as a caretaker for the elderly up until 2006, where she then moved to Irvington, New Jersey. Then in 2009, Celeitha moved back home to of St. Vincent and the Grenadines where she resumed farming, enjoying the sea breeze and spending time with her family.
Celeitha was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. She cooked or baked just enough to feed her family and close friends. When she sold produce from the ground, she ensured that her customers got their money’s worth. Celeitha was known for her infectious laugh and big personality. She loved to sing and dance which was a source of comfort to her and brought a smile or laugh to anyone around her.
Celeitha was known for her love of life and people, a devoted lover of reading the Bible and doing what is right. She was always there for her family and friends to lend a hand. She was one of the most generous individuals anyone who met her knew. Always giving, always sharing.
